How We Do
Each grain carries the indelible stamp of Nav Bharat excellence when it comes to looks, texture, taste and aroma. Nav Bharat carries on the rich heritage further refined by experience and modern technologies. Perfection is ensured by a holistic process that starts from procurement and ends with packaging.
Procurement is the most critical aspect of basmati rice production. This is where the most meticulous and rigorous standards are followed. Procuring harvested paddy from auctions is one thing; we go beyond to book in advance and assist farmers throughout the growth and harvesting cycle to ensure perfection. Quality of basmati depends on a variety of factors such as soil, temperature, moisture, fertilizer, growing methods, watering, harvesting and drying of paddy. Our assistance to farmers extends to advancing loans, timely payment and educating them on proper techniques.
It may not be humanly possible to control soil and climatic conditions but our rice procurement experts assist farmers with advice and methods on growing basmati for consistency and high yields. We then wait for farmers to harvest and bring paddy to market where each lot is sample tested to ensure it complies with our norms. Paddy is purchased only when it passes our strict Checks. It does not stop there.
Once in our warehouses, we draw samples and use sophisticated equipment to check paddy for looks, moisture content, physical size of grains and other parameters such as presence of pathogens, aflatoxin, pests and discoloration. Only if a lot passes our strict inspection is it then passed for process.
Ageing is the next stage in processing basmati rice. Ageing reduces the moisture content and enhances flavor. It also has a subtle effect on the texture and taste. The longer it is aged, the better it looks, tastes and smells. Nav Bharat has warehouses where high standards of hygiene are maintained. Each lot is aged for a minimum of 1 to 2 years before it is processed. Our brands are segregated according to types of basmati rice and also give an indication of their age. Throughout the process the lot is checked to ensure it has reached the right maturity stage.
Our procurement is in tons. Paddy and Rice are stored in our warehouses where it is also aged. Our warehouses are modern sheds with controls for temperature and humidity. Bags of paddy are stored in a way that permits aeration and also allows easy inspection. Our warehouses are fully treated to be pest-proof and they undergo periodic fumigation to ensure highest standards of hygiene. Our strict standards ensure rice is not contaminated by pathogens, fungus or bacteria. Samples are tested at regular intervals as part of quality control process. Once a lot reaches the right maturity stage they are sent onwards for processing and packing.
Nav Bharat employs a sophisticated world-class process in place of the age-old methods to ensure consistency. The parboiling plant has soaking bins with sensors and controllers to control moisture level, aeration and temperature as well as duration. The process of parboiling retains the aroma, enhances texture and improves taste while nullifying any possibilities of fermentation of bacterial growth. We use only softwater obtained from our in-house giant water softening plant and effluent disposal unit for environmental safety.
The company has fully automated paddy drying systems to ensure uniformity in grain drying and ensuring consistency of rice grains, thus producing smell free rice while preserving the natural grain characteristics.
